Victorian Bulldog Owners Comments and Views Having owned KC Bulldogs for some 12 years we decided we would like to look into the alternative types of Bulldogs being bred that claimed to be healthier and more athletic. We decided that the Victorian Bulldog suited our size requirements and so embarked on our first ownership. We brought our bundle of joy home at 8 weeks and at this stage found no real difference “all puppies are gorgeous” whatever the breed. Now that our VB is approaching adulthood I can honestly say that compared to KC type the VB is healthier, steadier in temperament and much more able to walk and play without becoming breathless. Their loyalty appears to be the same as does their ability to fill your heart with joy. We are really happy with our VB, they are a medium sized, short coated and fun loving dog which will take as much or little exercise as you can allow. There is a group of enthusiastic VB breeders/owners among the Victorian Bulldog Foundation who are on hand to give advice or generally just to chat to about your VB and occasional get together where you can show off your VB. I have been infatuated with
Bulldogs for over 15 years and throughout this time I have collected and
learned a lot about the history and development of this intriguing breed
of dog. Having been involved with the showing of dogs, which I did
enjoy, I became disheartened over some health issues with regards to the
Bulldogs I so loved.
I gave up on the modern form of Bulldog when I discovered the Victorian Bulldog. This was the dog for me!!, more robust, with less health problems and above all it still has that great Bulldog temperament. The Victorian Bulldog is ideally suitable to be owned as a family companion. The Victorian Bulldog resembles our national breed of circa 1885. The bulldogs from this period did not have over exaggerated features. These were the early form of show bulldog and not the earlier working type bulldog. Martin Moran - September 2005. This pic says a lot about the VB.
Since owning my very first Victorian Bulldog all I can
say is probably what all VB owners will say, I became hooked, since then
my family of VB’s has grown a little.
Victorian Bulldogs are a great all round pet to own, healthy, energetic, friendly, intelligent and I have to say in regards too all my girls a temperament that is just what I look for in a dog. I would say a VB is a great all rounder they just seem to mould into your way of life, 2 off my girls I have owned since puppies and one since an adult, and apart from the mother daughter tiffs every now and again, they all fit in together great. And most importantly in my opinion they all fit in with my family of 4 children ranging from 5yrs to 17yrs.
Never have I known such an intuitively loving and gentle brut as these.
True to legendary ancestry their emotional intelligence dwarfs that of
any dog I have ever known, more like a bear esp than dog. Gentle,
kind, playful and easy. A non-dog as we know it. A deeply intuitive
dog at the forefront of the Mollosor strain and a dog which will astound
anyone clever enough to own the most sensational, show-stopping breed.
A great size, easily managed, quickly trained, urbane (crate covered with
picnic blanket in the sitting room in inner London flat perfect) and a
stern stare is all that is needed to harness the explosive power and love
this distinctly ancient breed contains.
Be in no doubt history is not wrong, the Philo Kuhn were right the Victorian Bulldog's heavy bones, longer legs and snout made it "the bulldog" and from one guy with a wife two kids in London the most noble, potent and beautiful companion one could ask for". Simon Cathcart - September 2005 Boxers were our breed until unfortunately we lost our last two bitches, we decided to have a rest for a year from a canine companion. But the emptiness of the house soon got the better of us, feeling we could not replace our last 12 year old Boxer we looked into other breeds. On finding a "VB" site we were soon on our way to Scotland to view our 1st Victorian Bulldogs in the flesh. WOW were our thoughts at our 1st meeting with this strong, friendly, and amazing looking dog. They had never met our children before but they showed nothing but friendship towards them. There was no question in our minds that this was the breed for us. After time has passed our feeling have only grown towards this loving, gentle but strong dog. We have become used to the questions and inquisitive looks when out walking, while she loves her daily exercise. We would not be with out one now and long may they continue to thrive.
